Blessings from above AND below!

I feel so completely blessed right now, and I HAVE to share my story.

We have been attending our church, First Assembly since December of last year. It was the first church that we visited, and the last. We fell in love with the church; the music, the nursery, the people were all so wonderful that we instantly fell in love. We went to First Look, which is a 15 minute or so meet and greet with Pastor Rod and Cindy, and Pastor Steve and Natalie, the same Natalie that you see all over my blog. :) A couple of months after we had been going there, we were invited to have Sunday lunch with the above Pastors, plus a few more staff members, like Ms. Pam, who we also adore. :) During that lunch Mike and Steve hit it off and Mike told Steve that he would come over and help him finish a bathroom remodel at their house...and that was how our friendship with Steve and Nat began. In the last 5 or 6 months or so, First Assembly has really become our home, the place we miss even if we are just traveling home for the weekend.

After Mom died, our Thanksgiving plans changed, since we were supposed to have Thanksgiving dinner with them here in Arkansas. Mike and I decided to go ahead and stay here for Thanksgiving, and we were planning on just having the holiday week to ourselves, but we were invited to have a Thanksgiving meal at P-Rod and Cindy's house with Steve and Nat, and several other friends and staff members from church. We had such a great time, and really felt at home there with everyone, and had a blast playing Rock Band 2...even Roman played the drums! (I will upload pics later...too cute!)

Cut to this weekend. This Sunday was Family Christmas at First Assembly, this being our first time to attend. There are three services, and we typically go to third service, but Steve told us that we definitely should try to attend as many services as we could, but definitely second service. He said he couldn't tell us why, but that we really should try to be there if possible. Later on, one of the children's pastors, Gary, told me that Steve didn't know it, but the church was going to honor him and Natalie, so to be sure and be there. I brought my camera and everything to take pictures of Steve and Nat, because I wanted to be sure to document this day for them. Well, they read the Christmas Story, and the next thing I hear is P-Rod saying that they would like Mike and Tara Henson to come up to the stage! I have NO idea what is going on, but we go up there and sit down on some comfy chairs onstage(the stage was decorated like a living room with couches, chairs, coffee table, etc.). P-Rod starts telling the story of Mom, how she thought she had laryngitis for a couple of weeks. She refused to go to the doctor, because they didn't have health insurance, but finally she was feeling so poorly that she went to the urgent care, where they diagnosed her with pneumonia. They gave her a steroid shot and some medication and sent her home, and she died in her sleep that night.

Then P-Rod started talking about how I was her only adult child, and how my only brother was autistic, and couldn't help with the funeral costs, so it fell to Mike and I. He also told how we had pulled Roman out of Mother's Day Out at church, because we were going to send that money to the funeral home; they were letting us make payments, or there would have been no way that we would have been able to even afford the funeral!

Then they proceeded to tell us that the church was donating a whole YEAR of free childcare for Roman, for both Tuesday AND Thursday (the only days they are open). He was only going one day a week because that was all we could really afford anyway. We were floored! What amazing generosity. Then, on top of that, they pull out this wicked cool 4Wheeler for Roman!

He rode it all over the stage for a minute or two, but then wanted Uncle Steve to help him off. We hugged everybody, said thank you, then were walking off the stage when P-Rod said, Mike, we also need to know what funeral home to make a check out to, because we are going to pay $2,000.00 towards the funeral costs. I started bawling all over again.

Can you believe how good God is to us when we are faithful? It's been such a struggle to pay our tithes, because we have needed every cent that we had, especially around the holidays. But we paid them anyway, and God rewarded us by being faithful to us. Isn't he amazing? I love my God and I love my church!

Thanks for your thoughts and prayers.

Hey all, I know I haven't been blogging in awhile, but I honestly just haven't had the words. Most of you know my mom passed away almost three weeks ago. It was unexpected and the reason unknown, so it has been tough. I've almost been avoiding writing a blog, because I know most people expect some profound thoughts and feelings to pour forth onto the page, but my mind is still frozen, I think. I will continue to blog, but it may take a while for me to be able to blog about everything that has happened. I do just want to sincerely thank everyone who prayed for me, and came by to wish me the best during the last few weeks. It has honestly meant so much to me, and I love you all!

I voted, did you?

Come on people, it's time to vote! Exercise that American right; no matter who you vote for, it is imperative that you vote. Remember, if you don't vote, you can't gripe!

Take back the White House, woo-hoo! :-)

Family Fun Night!!! (AKA Halloween)

Well, here's our little monster, um vampire! We went to Family Fun Night at our church, First Assembly instead of celebrating Halloween. They had a carnival rides, games, a petting zoo, costume contests, and the older kids also got to do stuff like make their own music video in front of a green screen, and Nintendo Wii competitions. Of course, Roman wasn't old enough to do much of the "cool" stuff, but he had a great time doing his own thing. First, he and his Daddy slid down one of those huge blow up slides. He had a grin on his face the whole time!

Then we ran into Uncle Steve, who had to give Roman some attention, OF COURSE. :-)

Then to get some pictures of Roman in his outfit, we put him down and let him run all over. He loves walking outside, anywhere actually; we call him Roamin' Roman. Isn't he a scary yet adorable vampire?!

Roman was scared at first of the animals; in fact, they had ponies hooked up where the kids could ride them, but he wanted no part of that! I took him to the petting zoo area, and he finally got comfortable petting the horses, and feeding them and the baby goats.

We also rode the mini train. He loved going over the speed bumps.

This was inside the M.A.C. Where you touched it, lightning showed up. He was excited that he was causing a reaction!

Kids were supposed to stand behind the line to throw the bean bags, but Roman wanted to dunk them in the pumpkin's mouth. I guess he's going to be a basketball player, not a football player!

He had his first piece of candy in the form of a strawberry sucker, which he picked out of a sucker tree. He enjoyed that sucker so much, that whenever we took it away from him so he could do an activity, he threw a hissy fit!

Here he had just had his first lick.

He tried sharing his sucker with his Aunt Natalie, but she wasn't in the mood to share. :-)

This is Ms. Jean, one of his favorite Sunday School teachers. She is so sweet!

Hope everyone had a Happy Halloween!

If I'm gone, you'll know why...

Okay, I may be putting all my "Tara Time" into an area other than blogging the next few weeks. Here is reason #1:

It came out yesterday, and I have been looking forward to it for about a year now, ever since I heard that it was coming out! It is a role-playing game, which is my favorite game genre. There aren't too many quality RPG's that are out there, but NEXT week, another awesome game is coming out!

I reserved my copy, and got this game case, which had a music cd and a poster inside! Not that I hang posters anymore, but it's still neat. The same game studio that created Oblivion (the whole reason I bought my 360), also did this game. The rumor is that Fallout 3 is Oblivion with guns and nuclear war, woo-hoo!!! Two endless RPG's in TWO weeks! Sigh. I am such a dork. :-) Thank you Mike for loving me anyway!

If anyone else has a xbox live, my gamertag is OblivionGirl. Hit me up, and we can play Fable II together!

Two wonderful years

October 14th was my 2 year anniversary with my wonderful husband! Mike has already blogged about what we did on our special day here, so I thought I would just talk about our wedding day memories instead.

We had been dating for three years, when we decided to get married. It was a pretty low key decision, and because we wanted to get married in the fall, my favorite season, we only had a few weeks to plan! We had always been interested in a glass cathedral in Eureka Springs, so the same weekend we decided to get married, we took a little trip to visit the town and the cathedral to make sure that was what we wanted. Sure enough, we had a great time; Eureka is SOOO charming, and the church was absolutely gorgeous! We checked on availabilities, and it turned out that the only available date was just over six weeks away! That didn't leave us a lot of time, but it felt so right, that we didn't care. I booked the church, then Grandma and I went back to Eureka a few weekends later, to check out reception sites, photographers, florists, and a baker! Once those were taken care of, I found a dress, Mike found a tux, and I printed all our invitations on my home printer. I had to tie bows on every single one, so that took awhile, but believe it or not, we all pulled it off in time!

We picked out the rings (I actually didn't want a wedding band, just the one ring, but I didn't even get that until the night before the wedding, so I didn't wear it until I was married!), and my sister Lindsey and I headed off to Eureka two days before the wedding so we could be there in case something needed to be done.

Of course, everything went off without a hitch...well, except one. My sister, bless her heart, was supposed to have brought Mike's ring to the church, but she forgot it back at the honeymoon cottage! She didn't realize it until during the wedding, when she frantically tried to find a replacement ring for me to slip on Mike's finger! I ended up putting another of Mike's ring's that he wore on the other hand, on his ring finger. My aunt Glenna went to the cottage to get the ring after the ceremony, so he could wear it for the reception. It was extremely stressful, and I was so disappointed, but things happen, and everything turned out all right in the end!

We had a beautiful reception in an old hotel in downtown Eureka. We danced, ate, and had a lovely time visiting with our friends and family that made it down. All in all, it was a beautiful wedding, but more importantly, I have a WONDERFUL marriage, and isn't that the point?! I love you baby. Happy Anniversary!!!

Here are some of my favorite photographs from our wedding day.
